Summer was elusive. The painting and the design would not come. Or, the idea for the design would come and it would not settle in for me as the "aha moment" that let me know to proceed.
Summer happened when I moved into my new studio space and discovered Copic markers. While fooling around with the markers, I discovered that they worked on fabric. After several experiments, I used copic marker in the flower circle centers and lumiere paints for the outer circles. A combination of metallic and cotton embroidery threads completed the flowers.
In the spirit of "white hot" summers, I opted for the whimsy of heavy weight artist canvas cut into a high low circle skirt. I did not measure the hem (sewn in gold metallic thread--beastly to work with but oh so beautiful) until the garment was completed. It came in at roughly five feet in circumference. That is a lot of hand stitching!
I finished the garment by adding a beaded pin to close the wool capelet.
